Housekeeper

Role Overview

The Housekeeper is responsible for carrying out daily cleaning and upkeep tasks for the housekeeping department in line with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, as well as internal direction from the Administrator and/or Director of Environmental Services. The goal is to keep the facility clean, safe, and comfortable at all times.

Key Duties

• Follow assigned cleaning and work schedules as closely as possible.
• Immediately notify a supervisor about any accident or incident, regardless of how minor it may seem.
• Work in coordination with nursing staff when completing routine cleaning in resident rooms and other residential areas.
• Clean, wash, sanitize, and polish fixtures, ledges, heating and cooling units, bathroom fittings, and similar surfaces.
• Maintain flooring through sweeping, dusting, damp or wet mopping, stripping, waxing, buffing, and disinfecting as needed.
• Dispose of waste in the correct containers and replace trash liners.
• Protect resident privacy by not sharing protected health information and report any suspected or actual privacy breaches to the Administrator.
• Use established safety practices while handling tools, equipment, and supplies.
• Prepare cleaning mixtures, disinfectants, and related solutions correctly, following manufacturer guidance when required.
• Wear the proper personal protective equipment when dealing with infectious materials, hazardous waste, or chemicals.
• Take on additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Capability to follow both written and verbal instructions, including directions related to cleaning compounds, liquids, and disinfecting solutions.
• Willingness to work cooperatively with coworkers and interact appropriately with residents at varying levels of functioning.

Physical Requirements

The role requires frequent movement throughout the workday and the ability to manage the mental and emotional demands of the position. The employee must also be able to push, pull, move, or lift at least 25 pounds to a height of 5 feet and carry, push, or pull that weight for a minimum distance of 50 feet.
