Role overview

Glenorchy City Council is looking for a skilled and driven Human Resources Advisor to become part of its People & Culture team in Montrose, Tasmania. This is a collaborative role in a values-led workplace, where you will support both managers and staff across a wide range of HR activities.

Reporting to the Coordinator Human Resources, the role offers hands-on professional support and guidance throughout the employee journey. You will work closely with leaders and employees to deliver HR services that are practical, compliant and consistent, while helping strengthen workplace culture and organisational outcomes.

Key responsibilities

  • Offer prompt and practical guidance to leaders and employees on a variety of people management issues.
  • Help manage employee relations matters such as grievances, performance concerns and misconduct.
  • Assist with hiring and selection, position reviews and workforce planning work.
  • Support the creation and rollout of HR policies, procedures and related projects.
  • Coordinate important HR processes, including performance review cycles and reporting tasks.
  • Ensure HR practices remain compliant and aligned with legislation, Council directions and the Enterprise Agreement.

About you

You will be an experienced HR generalist with a solid grasp of employment law and industrial relations frameworks, preferably gained in a complex or unionised setting. You should be confident working across the full employee lifecycle and comfortable balancing operational delivery with relationship management.

Qualifications and experience

  • Certificate IV in Human Resources, or a closely related field, plus at least 5 years of experience in a generalist HR position.
  • Additional tertiary study and/or experience in the public sector will be viewed favourably.
  • Experience with Enterprise Agreements and HR systems is an advantage.

Working arrangement

This is a full-time role with 76 hours worked across a 9-day fortnight.
