About MAWDY

MAWDY has expanded steadily in recent years and now holds a strong position in insurance and assistance solutions. The business aims to keep building on that growth by delivering the high standard of customer care its clients expect. It is also well established in claims handling, assistance services, and specialist risk products.

Role overview

This apprenticeship is a structured three-year programme that combines classroom-based study with practical experience across core parts of the business. It is designed to give broad exposure to Assistance, Sales, and Claims, helping the apprentice build a solid grounding in insurance operations and customer service.

Alongside day-to-day work, the apprentice will work towards APA and CIP professional qualifications, as well as a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Insurance Practice (Apprenticeship), a Level 8 NFQ award from ATU Sligo. During the programme, the apprentice will move between departments to develop technical knowledge, workplace capability, and hands-on insurance experience.

Key duties

Responsibilities will develop as training and qualifications progress, and may include the following:

  • Responding to incoming customer queries in a courteous, professional, and service-oriented way
  • Explaining insurance products, cover details, policy entitlements, and claims procedures clearly and accurately
  • Working with customers, suppliers, and internal colleagues to provide prompt assistance
  • Keeping customer records accurate and up to date within internal systems
  • Supporting sales through inbound enquiries received by phone, email, and web chat
  • Registering, managing, and moving claims forward in line with company processes and service expectations
  • Delivering claims outcomes with clarity and empathy, and escalating more complex matters when needed
  • Assisting with more advanced claims work after achieving APA qualification
  • Working toward SLAs, KPIs, and agreed performance targets

General responsibilities

  • Taking part in all required off-the-job learning and academic assessments
  • Putting apprenticeship learning into practice in the workplace
  • Collaborating effectively with colleagues across different departments
  • Following company policies, regulatory requirements, and governance standards at all times
  • Carrying out additional tasks as needed to support the business

Working hours

This is a full-time position of 35 hours per week. Standard business hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm, with a one-hour unpaid lunch break. These hours may be adjusted if business needs change. On occasion, you may also be asked to support the Assistance team outside standard hours with telephony or administrative tasks, particularly during busy periods.

Candidate profile

The ideal applicant will be curious, forward-thinking, and motivated to achieve strong outcomes for customers.

  • Strong interest in developing a career in insurance
  • Excellent communication and people skills
  • Customer-first approach with a positive and professional attitude
  • Willingness to learn, adapt, and work across several business areas
  • Good organisational ability and close attention to detail
  • Basic IT knowledge, including Microsoft Office
