Role overview

The Audit function works closely with Risk and Compliance to design internal risk management and compliance processes and to make sure those controls operate effectively. This Lead Auditor position is focused on financial operations in New Zealand, including financial crime, technology, payments, operational resilience, and third-party risk management. The role provides assurance over governance and control frameworks while helping the business progress toward its strategic objectives and deliver more value to customers.

Key responsibilities

• Assess risk to build and continuously refine a risk-based internal audit plan.
• Carry out full-cycle internal audits across major risk areas, while keeping local priorities aligned with the wider global audit approach.
• Use data effectively to better understand risks, test controls, and generate useful business insights.
• Share internal audit findings with senior leadership and the Board.
• Develop strong working relationships with important stakeholders, including the CEO, CRO, and COO.
• Handle regulatory questions related to internal audit scope and outcomes.
• Review, validate, and track management actions taken in response to audit findings.

Requirements

• At least 7 years of experience in an audit-focused role within a regulated financial services setting.
• Strong hands-on experience with end-to-end risk-based internal audits, risk assessments, and audit planning.
• Proven ability to lead teams and manage audits from start to finish.
• Understanding of global regulatory expectations relevant to New Zealand operations.
• Knowledge of audit subject areas such as financial crime, payments, and third-party risk management.
• Ability to work with and interpret data using SQL, SAS, Python, and/or R.
• Strong analytical thinking and structured problem-solving ability.
• Excellent communication skills for challenging stakeholders, presenting results, and explaining reports clearly.
• Helpful to have experience auditing agile organisations.
• Helpful to have a CA ANZ qualification.
• Helpful to hold a Certified Internal Auditor credential.
