Role Overview
The Maintenance Planner is responsible for building and managing work orders, schedules, and preventive maintenance programs through a CMMS so plant equipment stays operating efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
This position involves planning maintenance work in detail, coordinating resources, and supporting plant reliability efforts across shifts and departments.
- Set up preventive maintenance tasks, work orders, schedules, and maintenance plans, including frequency, labor estimates, parts, and cost details.
- Develop strong working knowledge of all plant equipment and systems.
- Work with operations teams to increase equipment uptime and reduce downtime while keeping maintenance current.
- Coordinate with Maintenance Supervisors to plan jobs and improve labor use.
- Arrange planned shutdowns and collaborate with maintenance personnel, contractors, and vendors.
- Partner with other planners and supervisors across shifts to build work plans, ensure completion on time, and maintain proper records.
- Support the part room attendant in identifying critical spare parts and ordering items needed to complete maintenance work.
- Create procedures using OEM manuals, P&IDs, drawings, schematics, and accepted industry practices.
- Maintain maintenance records and files in the CMMS.
- Build new procedures using reliability, predictive, and preventive maintenance methods.
- Set goals and KPIs for the maintenance team.
- Prepare reports using maintenance, labor, and cost data.
- Apply relevant requirements for workplace safety, food safety, corporate standards, and environmental compliance.
- Help the maintenance team create and deliver training for Maintenance Technicians.
- Support new equipment installations and continuous improvement work with the Engineering team.
- Ensure electrical maintenance activities align with NFPA 70B.
Education and Experience
The role requires a high school diploma and at least 2 years of planner experience in a manufacturing setting. Hands-on experience with a CMMS is also required.
Preferred qualifications include an associate degree in a relevant field or a maintenance planner certification. Experience in the food industry, PSM-covered processes such as ammonia refrigeration, and water/wastewater systems is preferred.
Skills and Knowledge
Candidates should understand automated machinery and plant systems, communicate clearly with all levels of the organization, and bring strong leadership, problem-solving, presentation, and team motivation skills. Proficiency with internet tools, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and CMMS software is required.
Working Conditions
This is a plant-based role in Perry, Georgia. The job may require standing for long periods, wearing required PPE such as a beard/hairnet, ear plugs, frock, and boots, and using hands and arms for pushing, pulling, reaching, and occasional overhead lifting. Visual inspection of equipment and product is also part of the work.
The environment includes wet or slippery floors, varying temperatures, and an average production-area temperature of about 40 degrees. Team members may be exposed to raw and cooked meat products and moving equipment, and must follow all food safety and quality requirements.
Compensation and Benefits
The starting hourly rate for this role is between $25.46 and $40.85. Actual pay may differ depending on market conditions, internal equity, location, and the candidate’s skills and experience. Base pay is only one part of the total rewards package, and eligible team members may also receive annual incentive and program-specific awards.
