About the company
TrueNorth is a global data and AI organisation serving leading pharmaceutical companies, biotechnology firms, and regulators. The team builds end-to-end machine learning solutions that improve how medicines are discovered, approved, launched, and made accessible.
About the role
This position is for a mid to senior data scientist who will own one major AI delivery at a time, usually taking a solution from idea to production within about six months. The work centres on solving practical business problems using agentic AI, MCP servers, retrieval-augmented generation, large language models, knowledge graphs, classical machine learning, and data logic, with an emphasis on impact over novelty.
Responsibilities
- Work with product teams to identify valuable AI and machine learning use cases across pharma data and product areas.
- Investigate, build prototypes, and thoroughly evaluate machine learning approaches; confirm proof-of-concepts with relevant stakeholders.
- Deliver production-ready microservices in collaboration with engineering and DevOps teams.
- Help develop shared data science platforms and reusable data assets.
- Keep up with the latest developments in state-of-the-art AI and share insights internally.
Requirements
- A STEM degree or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 5 years of experience building AI/ML applications and data-driven solutions.
- Advanced Python skills, including experience with tools such as pandas, scikit-learn, and LangChain.
- Strong hands-on experience with LLMs, including APIs, prompt design, retrieval-augmented generation, and agent-based systems.
- Solid knowledge of generative AI, NLP, deep learning, and core computer science principles.
- Demonstrated ability to engineer and deploy robust, well-structured software.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to lead work independently and mentor junior team members.
Preferred background
- Experience in healthcare or pharmaceutical domains.
- Exposure to AWS services such as ECS, Bedrock, SageMaker, and serverless architectures.
- Ability to build full-stack prototypes for proof-of-concept work.
- Comfort using AI-assisted coding tools and modern AI development workflows.
Compensation and benefits
The annual salary range for this role is £50,000 to £100,000. Benefits include 25 days of annual leave, 4 volunteering days, 1 personal day, a 5% pension match, life assurance, income protection, voluntary dental cover, private medical insurance, and health screening.
