Power BI Developer

Role overview

BlueRose Technologies is seeking a seasoned Power BI Developer in Sydney to support reporting and analytics initiatives. This is a 6-month contract that may be extended. The role calls for 5+ years of hands-on experience and focuses on building dependable data solutions from ingestion through transformation and visualization.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and support scalable data pipelines along with ETL/ELT workflows.
• Create, improve, and maintain Power BI dashboards, reports, and semantic data models.
• Combine and transform information from several data sources into usable outputs.
• Tune SQL queries and improve overall reporting speed and efficiency.
• Apply strong data modeling, governance, and security practices.
• Work with business and technical teams to convert needs into practical solutions.
• Investigate and fix problems affecting data pipelines and reporting outputs.
• Deliver work quickly and effectively in a fast-moving project setting.

Skills and experience required

The position requires deep, practical knowledge of Power BI, including dashboards, reports, DAX, data modelling, and Power Query. You should also bring proven ETL/data engineering experience, advanced SQL capability with performance tuning, and a solid grasp of star schema and dimensional modelling. Experience with Azure data services such as Azure Data Factory and Synapse is important, along with the ability to create end-to-end solutions spanning ingestion, transformation, and visualisation. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, and stakeholder management skills are also essential.

Nice-to-have experience

• Background in banking or financial services.
• Exposure to Azure Databricks, data lakes, and Synapse Analytics.
• Working knowledge of data governance and security controls.
• Experience delivering in Agile or Scrum environments.
• Python scripting for data handling and processing.
• History of improving Power BI report performance.
