About the Company

UNIQLO is built around the idea of combining originality with clothing. Its LifeWear concept reflects Japanese principles of simplicity, durability, quality, and long-lasting value, with a focus on making garments that feel warmer, lighter, better designed, and more comfortable for everyday life. As the flagship brand of Fast Retailing, the business continues to expand large-format stores in major cities worldwide and operates more than 2,500 stores across 26 markets.

In Australia, UNIQLO has identified the market as an important growth region for Asia and Oceania. The brand opened its first Australian store at Emporium in Melbourne in April 2014 and has since expanded to 40 stores across Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia, Western Australia, Queensland, and the Australian Capital Territory.

Role Overview

The Project Manager will be responsible for leading the full delivery of UNIQLO store projects across Australia, from early design and feasibility through construction, handover, and store opening. The role requires a strong understanding of the UNIQLO brand and a commitment to delivering projects on schedule, within budget, and aligned with brand expectations. This position reports to the Store Design & Construction Manager and collaborates closely with the Global Store Development team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own store delivery end to end, making sure every project meets the required standards for quality, safety, cost control, performance, and completion timelines.
  • Guide projects through the full lifecycle, including design, feasibility, construction, handover, and opening.
  • Track budgets against feasibility assumptions, handle cost reporting and approvals, and support value engineering efforts.
  • Manage procurement work, including contractor evaluation, selection, and supervision of vendors and contractors throughout the project.
  • Monitor construction activity on site, maintain quality compliance with global and local standards, and ensure defects are resolved promptly.
  • Travel interstate as needed to support project delivery.
  • Oversee landlord handovers so that base build conditions and coordinated services match site requirements and agreed scope.
  • Spot design and construction risks early and manage RFIs and change-control procedures effectively.
  • Coordinate information and decisions across internal teams, external architects, store operations, consultants, contractors, landlords, suppliers, and teams in Australia and Japan.
  • Maintain strong project governance, documentation, systems, permits, and statutory processes through consultants.
  • Apply lessons from completed projects to improve outcomes on future store builds.

Requirements

  • A tertiary qualification is preferred, though it is not mandatory.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in project management for retail construction or fit-outs; exposure to large-format retail is an advantage.
  • Solid knowledge of core project management methods, tools, and techniques.
  • Proven ability to manage several projects at the same time.
  • Comfortable working independently in a fast-moving environment while also contributing proactively to a committed team.
  • Strong leadership approach with the ability to apply agile best practices and disciplined control processes.
  • Advanced capability in cost governance, including analysing and negotiating project costs.
  • Highly organised, detail-focused, and methodical.
  • Clear, professional communication skills in both written and spoken form.
  • Customer-oriented mindset with a focus on high-quality outcomes.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills across both internal and external groups.
  • Full working rights in Australia are required to be considered for this role.

Benefits and Perks

  • Performance-related bonuses paid twice each year.
  • Eligibility for the Group Profit Sharing Scheme after one year of service, subject to fiscal year requirements.
  • Flexible work arrangements that support work-life balance.
  • Staff discount on UNIQLO products.
  • Access to a confidential Employee Assistance Program for wellbeing support.
  • Use of a multilingual learning platform for ongoing development and career growth.
  • Opportunity to work with a global brand and gain exposure beyond Australia.
  • Potential travel to Tokyo Head Office through the Global Convention in Japan, held twice yearly, depending on role and business needs.
  • Additional competitive employee benefits.
