Role overview
The Quantity Surveyor will assist the Project Manager with the full commercial and financial management of the project. This includes maintaining cost control, checking contractor payments, managing contract compliance, supporting valuation and change processes, and keeping commercial records accurate throughout the project life cycle. The position also involves analysing cost consequences, tracking commercial status, and helping ensure that project scope, schedule, and budget remain aligned.
Key duties
- Assist the Project Manager with cost control, commercial administration, payment checks, change control, claims handling, and cost reporting during the project.
- Evaluate contractor payment applications and submit recommendations to the Client in line with the established approval and governance workflow.
- Review variations, change requests, claims, extension-of-time cost implications, cost impacts, provisional sums, commercial risks, forecasts, cash flow, and cost reports.
- Keep commercial logs and tracking tools up to date, including variation records, payment logs, cost reports, and other documents used for project reporting and decisions.
- Liaise with the Project Manager, senior discipline engineers, the planning engineer, and the document control team so that commercial assessments are backed by the right technical, programme, and contractual information.
- Assess contractor submissions covering quantities, rates, valuations, substantiation of costs, scope changes, and entitlement, and prepare recommendations for Client review and decision-making.
Candidate profile
The ideal candidate should have substantial experience in cost control, contract administration, payment review, variation evaluation, claims support, and commercial reporting. Experience on data centre, mission-critical, MEP-heavy, industrial, or other technically complex projects is preferred. Familiarity with project controls, cost reporting, contract administration, and commercial management in multidisciplinary construction projects in Qatar or the wider region is important. The role also requires the ability to work closely with planning and technical teams to evaluate time and cost effects, support extension-of-time reviews, and maintain clear commercial visibility for the Client. A good understanding of construction contracts, change control, payment processes, and commercial reporting practices is required.
