Renewables Lead

Role overview

GHD is seeking an accomplished, client-oriented Renewables Lead to help grow its Power & Energy business in Aotearoa, with a clear focus on renewable projects. Based preferably in Auckland, this position suits someone who is passionate about renewable energy and able to act as the key contact for major clients, delivering solutions that are well aligned to their needs and expectations.

The role sits across a fast-expanding New Zealand renewable pipeline, including solar, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and pumped hydro storage. You will draw on your technical and project background to connect clients with specialists across planning, grid connection, due diligence, design, delivery, and asset optimisation, supporting projects that contribute to Aotearoa’s renewable energy future.

What you will do

• Work closely with GHD’s renewable energy specialists to deepen client relationships and strengthen the company’s presence in New Zealand’s renewable sector.
• Act as the key contact for significant solar and BESS engagements, ensuring client goals are translated into strong project outcomes.
• Guide project delivery teams and, where required, step into design manager or project manager responsibilities on client-focused work.
• Lead bid activity from go/no-go evaluation through to proposal preparation, working directly with clients to shape tailored solutions.
• Develop lasting partnerships with major electricity generators and renewable developers.
• Provide trusted advice, anticipate client issues, and identify opportunities that support long-term growth.
• Contribute to projects across New Zealand and the Pacific, with potential exposure to clients in the wider APAC region.

What you need

• A bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
• At least 10 years of industry experience, with a strong record in client engagement and relationship management.
• Solid project management capability, including experience leading successful proposals and marketing pursuits; PMP certification is preferred.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical ideas clearly to different audiences.
• A proactive, decisive, and client-first mindset, supported by strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
• A collaborative approach aligned with values such as teamwork, knowledge sharing, integrity, and respect.

Work style and culture

This role follows a hybrid work model, with three days each week in the office to support collaboration, connection, and productivity.
