Role overview
WSP is seeking a Senior Planner to join its planning team in Hamilton or Auckland. The role sits within a group that provides specialist technical advice to a broad client base, supporting development projects from early strategy and policy work through to consenting and post-consent monitoring. The work is closely tied to infrastructure and community outcomes, with an emphasis on delivering practical solutions that support long-term positive impact.
As part of a global professional services organisation, you would contribute to projects that help shape communities and support future-focused outcomes. The team is collaborative, made up of technical specialists, advisors and communicators who work together to deliver professional planning solutions.
About the team and organisation
WSP operates internationally and brings together planners, engineers, advisors and scientists. The organisation focuses on creating positive, lasting impact through work that supports communities in New Zealand and around the world. The culture values curiosity, new ideas and diverse perspectives, with opportunities to work on significant projects and develop a career path suited to your goals.
Key accountabilities
The position involves contributing to complex development proposals and assisting across the full planning lifecycle. You will support strategic planning work, policy development, consenting processes and monitoring after consent has been granted. The role also requires a commercially aware approach, strong collaboration with clients and colleagues, and a focus on achieving outcomes that benefit both projects and the wider community.
Candidate profile
To be successful, you should hold a relevant tertiary qualification in a related field and bring strong technical capability. A background of around 7 years or more in planning or a related discipline, particularly within infrastructure development, is preferred. You should be relationship-driven, solutions-oriented, highly accurate in your work and comfortable contributing to a growing team.
