Role Overview

The Department of Statistics is looking for a motivated full stack developer who is interested in AI/ML and data engineering. In this role, you will help build and maintain web applications while also gaining exposure to AI/ML integration and data pipeline work.

Responsibilities

• Build and support web applications using current frontend and backend frameworks and tools.
• Contribute to the creation and improvement of data pipelines that support machine learning models.
• Work with data scientists and ML engineers to move AI/ML solutions into production.
• Produce code that is clean, efficient, maintainable, and aligned with established standards.
• Take part in code reviews and help maintain technical documentation.
• Assist with testing and troubleshooting applications in different environments.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
• Ability to work confidently in at least one modern programming language such as Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or Java.
• Working knowledge of frontend frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.js, and backend frameworks such as Django, Node.js, or Flask.
• Comfort using Git and collaborative development practices.
• Basic understanding of both SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Familiarity with RESTful APIs and web services.
• Advantageous exposure to AI/ML concepts such as RAG and MCP.
• Helpful knowledge of data tools like Pandas and NumPy.
• Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Understanding of containerisation tools like Docker and orchestration technologies.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines is preferred.
• Basic grasp of data structures and algorithms.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
• Willingness to learn quickly and adapt to changing requirements.
• Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in a team.
• Self-driven approach with sound time management.
• Careful attention to detail and a strong commitment to code quality.

Additional Information

This is a 2-year fixed-term contract.
