About the Role
Stage 3 Separation builds solids control systems for mud management that help customers reduce costs and, when needed, support limited or zero-discharge solutions. The company also relies on a team of field technicians, supervisors, engineers, and scientists to recommend the most efficient and cost-effective approach for each job.
The company’s core values are safety, teamwork, innovation in technology, and operational integrity.
What You’ll Do
Working under the guidance of the Field Leader, the Solids Control Field Technician will support mechanical processes used in enhanced drilling operations and recycled drilling fluid systems across closed-loop and related mud systems. Training will be provided on specialized equipment.
This role involves 12-hour shifts on a 14-days-on/7-days-off rotation, with schedules varying by job site. Shift coverage may run from 12:00 PM to 12:00 AM or from 12:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Work is project-based, safety-sensitive, and performed at remote locations across Canada. The Calgary office is hiring for this role, though field work occurs nationwide.
Training and Field Work
You will shadow experienced technicians and learn to set up and dismantle equipment, operate solids control systems, support environmental services, handle basic electrical tasks, and understand drilling fluid properties. The role also includes learning maintenance routines, pressure washing, heavy equipment operation under supervision, and how to complete field documentation accurately.
Safety and Work Expectations
Daily safety participation is required, along with proper PPE use, adherence to safety procedures, and completion of PJRA/JSA forms, inspection reports, observation logs, and checklists as needed. The work environment must be kept clean and organized, including shared living quarters. Employees must be ready to work outdoors in cold, wet, and hot conditions and remain away from home for extended rotational assignments.
Additional Duties
Responsibilities may change or new tasks may be assigned by management at any time, with or without notice.
Required Background
Applicants should be comfortable working independently and as part of a team, be mechanically inclined, and have an understanding of electronics. Strong time management, problem-solving ability, professional relationship-building, and customer-facing communication are important. Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Outlook, are needed, along with the ability to read, write, and understand English.
Licensing, Certification, and Medical Requirements
A valid provincial driver’s license, insurance, and a clean driving record with low to zero demerits are required. The role accepts Class 5 licenses in Alberta, British Columbia, or Saskatchewan, Class G in Ontario, or an equivalent license in another province or territory. Because this is a safety-sensitive position, pre-employment drug and alcohol screening may be required through urine and/or breath testing.
Preferred Experience
Previous solids control exposure, one or more years of dewatering or water-based mud/transfer experience, hands-on use of shaker tanks, centrifuges, drying equipment, and pumps, prior heavy equipment experience, and familiarity with key rig safety certifications are all preferred. A basic understanding of drilling fluid characteristics is also an advantage.
Benefits
Company-paid benefits include employee health insurance at 100% employer cost, dependent health insurance, life insurance, paid vacation time, and paid holidays. Additional optional benefits include dental coverage, vision coverage, extra life and dependent life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, and an RRSP/DPSP retirement plan with company matching.
