Special Agent: Accounting/Finance Background

Overview

Use your accounting or finance background to step into an FBI special agent role. This position is designed for professionals who want to combine financial expertise with investigative work that supports national security and public safety.

The role is part of the FBI’s exempted federal civilian hiring freeze exceptions. As a special agent, you will apply technical accounting knowledge while also developing new capabilities through specialized training, hands-on investigative experience, and exposure to advanced tools and methods.

The work involves solving complex problems, thinking critically under pressure, adapting to changing situations, and collaborating with highly skilled professionals on matters involving cyber threats, terrorism, fraud, and other emerging risks. Major duties

• Investigate possible violations of federal law, including matters involving cybersecurity and public safety.
• Use sound judgment, flexibility, and initiative to meet a wide range of investigative needs.
• Build and maintain working relationships with law enforcement partners at the federal, state, local, tribal, territorial, and international levels.
• Stay physically prepared to meet the demands of law enforcement work.

Compensation

The stated pay range for this position is $103,236.00 to $133,200.00. Compensation is based on base pay, locality pay, and availability pay.

Key requirements

• You must be eligible to receive a Top Secret Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) clearance.
• You must be available to travel when needed.
• You must satisfy the FBI’s employment eligibility standards.

Education

A bachelor’s degree or higher is required, preferably in accounting or a related field such as business administration, finance, or forensic accounting, from a U.S.-accredited college or university. All degrees must be verified with transcripts.
