Role overview
This position sits within a next-generation Traffic Operations Command Centre (OCC) focused on using technology, data, and integrated systems to improve how live traffic incidents are managed. It is a strong fit for someone who is interested in Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), AI-enabled tools, and digital integration, and who can stay composed in a high-pressure operational setting. The role combines hands-on incident management with cross-functional collaboration to strengthen operational performance through smarter systems and analytics.
Key duties
- Track live traffic incidents using ITS platforms and sensor feeds.
- Spot, prioritise, and escalate incidents quickly and accurately.
- Use AI, video analytics, and related monitoring tools to identify unusual traffic patterns or emerging trends.
- Oversee essential systems that support OCC operations.
- Work with internal teams and government agencies to coordinate incident response.
- Carry out and support contingency procedures during disruptions.
- Partner with data and systems teams to improve dashboard views and automate workflow logic.
- Use data insights and decision-support tools to strengthen incident handling, including alert thresholds and escalation steps.
- Take part in contingency drills and conduct after-action reviews to improve readiness.
Candidate profile
Applicants should hold at least a diploma in any field, with preference for backgrounds in IT, systems, engineering, or operations. The role calls for a team-oriented person who is comfortable with technology, has strong situational awareness, and communicates clearly. You should be able to make sound decisions in real-time scenarios and stay effective under pressure. A structured, analytical mindset and a genuine interest in improving processes and outcomes are important. Experience working in a command centre or another live operations environment with smart systems will be an advantage.
Additional information
As part of the selection process, candidates may be asked to complete a medical declaration and/or undergo additional assessments. The role requires shift work, including weekends and public holidays.
