Role overview
Smart Route Logistics is hiring a full-time truck driver in Brampton, Ontario. This is an on-road position where the work location can change, and the role requires frequent or ongoing travel away from the base location.
Language
English is required for this role.
Education
A secondary school graduation certificate is required.
Experience
Applicants should have 2 years to less than 3 years of relevant experience.
Key duties
- Work as part of a two-driver team or convoy when required.
- Load and unload cargo safely.
- Operate straight trucks or articulated trucks to move goods and materials.
- Monitor the truck’s condition, including tires, lights, brakes, refrigerated systems, and other equipment.
- Complete inspections before departure, during the trip, and after the trip, and supervise the overall condition of the vehicle.
- Carry out preventive maintenance tasks.
- Pass information back and forth with the central dispatch team.
- Keep accurate records of cargo details, service hours, distance covered, and fuel used.
Licences and credentials
- AZ class licence.
- Driver’s licence for Class 1 or A.
Documentation and specialization
- Knowledge of accident or incident reports.
- Familiarity with bills of lading.
- Use of driver logbooks.
- Preparation and review of inspection reports for pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip checks.
- Handling maintenance and repair reports.
- Completion of trip reports.
- Experience with tractor-trailer equipment.
- Ability to use GPS and other navigation tools.
- Experience with provincial or territorial travel.
Additional information
Background and safety screening may include verification of driver’s licence validity, review of driving abstract, and a drug test. A valid driver’s licence is required for travel-related work.
