Overview
Black Hawk College is looking for adjunct biology instructors to teach in-person classes at its Quad Cities Campus in Moline, Illinois. Teaching opportunities may include non-major biology, human anatomy and physiology, and microbiology. The role may involve assignments during the regular academic year as well as summer sessions.
Teaching Responsibilities
The instructor is expected to create a supportive learning environment by planning suitable syllabi, delivering lectures and other instructional activities, leading discussions, and using methods that strengthen the student learning experience. The position also includes designing and carrying out assessments to measure student progress and maintaining the equipment and instructional resources needed for classroom delivery.
Education and Experience
A master’s degree in biological sciences is required. Preferred background includes research or field experience in biology and prior teaching experience at the college or adult introductory biology level. Depending on the specific opening, experience teaching anatomy and physiology, microbiology, botany, or zoology may be needed. Strong spoken English skills for classroom teaching are also required.

As of Fall 2024, the minimum starting pay for adjunct faculty is $693.36 per equated hour for those with less than a master’s degree, $808.92 per equated hour for a master’s degree, and $866.70 per equated hour for a doctorate.
