Position Overview
Jackson State Community College is seeking part-time adjunct instructors to lead laboratory instruction in Agriculture, Biology, Chemistry, Physical Science, or Physics. These assignments are semester-based and may be offered as openings arise. The college operates from its main campus in Jackson, Tennessee, along with centers in Lexington, Savannah, and Trenton.
Selected faculty are expected to deliver high-quality instruction that supports student learning and promotes a positive lab environment. Teaching must align with the official course description and approved syllabus across all delivery formats.
Teaching Assignment
- Provide on-campus instruction at any JSCC location.
- Depending on assignment, instruction may also be delivered online, in hybrid format, or through FLEX delivery.
- Availability may be required for evening, weekend, off-campus, dual enrollment, and distance-learning classes.
Core Duties
- Use the institution’s learning management system to distribute materials and support instruction.
- Revise syllabi so the instructor’s name and contact details are included at least one week before the first class, or within seven days after the contract is executed.
- Keep current with developments in the teaching field.
- Attend the adjunct faculty orientation provided by the college.
- Work collaboratively with full-time faculty to prepare and coordinate lab activities and assessments across all instructional formats.
- Operate, care for, and clean routine laboratory equipment and supplies, including glassware, centrifuges, pH meters, dissection tools, and microscopes.
- Check JSCC and eLearn email regularly and reply to messages within 48 hours.
- Send final lab grades to the instructor of record, department chair, or dean at least 48 hours before the final grade deadline.
- Complete mandatory college trainings and reports, such as attendance reporting, Early Alerts, cybersecurity training, and Title IX training.
- Notify the department chair, dean, and division secretary as soon as possible if unable to attend class.
- Follow all JSCC and Tennessee Board of Regents policies and procedures.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a science-related discipline is required. A master’s degree in a related science field is preferred, along with prior teaching experience, especially at the college level.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Experience with multiple instructional delivery methods.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work well with a diverse faculty, staff, and student community.
- Solid computer proficiency, including learning management systems and Microsoft Office.
Compensation
Pay is set at $600 per credit hour.
