Role Overview
The Assistant Project Manager helps lead construction projects by working alongside the Project Manager to plan, coordinate, and drive execution. The position focuses on keeping work safe, on track, financially controlled, and aligned with all contract obligations while providing broad exposure to construction project management.
What You’ll Handle
- Support the Project Manager with daily project administration and communication with clients.
- Contribute to the creation and rollout of project execution plans, staffing plans, MBE/DBE/WBE plans, and project organization charts.
- Examine drawings, specifications, proposals, and related documents to understand scope, timing, labor, materials, and cost needs.
- Help prepare proposals, bid responses, estimates, and change order requests.
- Coordinate activities with field supervisors, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Check jobsite progress to confirm compliance with safety rules, technical specifications, and quality standards.
- Track subcontractor performance and verify it matches contract requirements and expected standards.
- Assist in drafting and managing subcontracts and vendor agreements.
- Review, route, and approve invoices, pay applications, and backup documentation.
- Create cost reports, labor production summaries, schedule forecasts, and cost projections.
- Identify project risks and issues, and work with the Project Manager on corrective actions.
- Calculate cost inputs and support evaluation of vendor and subcontractor pricing for value.
- Participate in internal meetings, site meetings, and client meetings as needed.

- Resolve schedule, cost, safety, and performance challenges that arise during project delivery.
- Assist with estimating labor, materials, and equipment requirements.
- Suggest ways to improve construction methods, productivity, and equipment use.
- Keep project records accurate and up to date.
- Support cost, schedule, and risk management activities.
Skills, Experience, and Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline is preferred, though comparable construction or project management experience from 0 to 7 years is acceptable.
- A valid driver’s license is required.
- Strong capability in leadership, organization, and time management.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical specifications, and construction documents.
- Working knowledge of construction materials, methods, and equipment used in site development and excavation.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making abilities.
- Comfort with computers, including Microsoft Office; familiarity with Microsoft Project and Bluebeam Revu is a plus.
- Understanding of project management fundamentals, or the willingness to learn them.

Work Environment
This is a salaried position that typically runs Monday through Friday, with occasional evenings or weekends when project needs require it. The role is split roughly 50% office work and 50% jobsite supervision. Frequent travel to project sites is expected, usually in a company vehicle. The environment is fast-paced and can be high-pressure due to project schedules, customer deadlines, and bid timelines.
