Role Purpose
The firefighter in this airport role is expected to handle aircraft and structural fire incidents, medical emergencies, hazardous material events, and other urgent situations within airport boundaries. The position supports the protection of passengers, crew, airport staff, and property through firefighting, rescue work, and emergency medical assistance.
Core Duties
- Respond quickly to aircraft-related incidents, building fires, medical situations, hazardous material events, and other emergencies on airport premises.
- Carry out fire suppression, rescue operations, and emergency medical support to safeguard people and assets.
- Use suitable firefighting methods and agents such as water, foam, dry chemicals, and other approved materials to control and extinguish fires.
- Perform search and rescue activities in smoke-affected and other dangerous environments.
- Provide first aid and basic life support until higher-level medical responders take over.
- Assist in moving patients to medical facilities when required.
- Inspect firefighting vehicles, extinguishers, and personal protective equipment every day and keep them operational.
- Track firefighting stocks and equipment so that all resources remain ready for emergency use.
- Take part in emergency drills, ICAO-required training, and routine response simulations.
- Maintain accurate incident notes, training logs, and shift records for audit and compliance purposes.
- Follow applicable local, state, and central regulations as well as standard operating procedures while carrying out duties.
- Spot hazards during patrols and inspections and initiate prompt corrective measures.
- Prepare and submit incident reports, equipment records, and other mandatory documentation.
- Work closely with airport operations, medical teams, and outside emergency agencies during incidents.
- Coordinate emergency actions and drills with the Duty Manager, ATC, and airport authorities.
Stakeholder Coordination
This role interacts internally with the Duty Manager - ARFF, Airport Operations Team, Airport Security, Emergency Medical Services, ARFF Crew Members, Engineering & Maintenance Team, and HSE Team. Externally, it coordinates with the Local Fire Services Department, airlines, ground handling companies, ARFF equipment suppliers and service partners, insurance companies, local community leaders, and civil aviation authorities.
Requirements
- A diploma in Fire Fighting Technology or an equivalent qualification is required.
- Certification from an accredited firefighting academy is mandatory.
- At least 2 to 3 years of firefighting experience is needed, preferably in aircraft rescue and fire fighting operations.
