직무 설명

Role Overview

The South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Pathology Partnership brings together pathology services across the Integrated Care System area for Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust. The partnership is designed to improve patient care, support clinicians, deliver quality and efficiency gains, and build a sustainable workforce for the future.

Applications are welcome from motivated people who want to join a busy microbiology laboratory. The SYB Microbiology department delivers a full analytical and diagnostic service that supports the diagnosis of infections for inpatients, outpatients, and general practitioners across South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw, and also carries out specialist testing for hospitals outside the partnership network.

Main Duties

In this role, you will carry out scientific and technical procedures under the guidance of the responsible healthcare scientist practitioner. You will also undertake a range of healthcare science activities with indirect supervision from a suitably qualified practitioner.

  • Carry out pre-analytical sample handling, including receipt, preparation, and processing.
  • Store, recover, and discard biological materials in line with approved procedures.
  • Respond to queries from medical staff, nursing staff, and other service users, including telephone enquiries, and take the appropriate follow-up action.
  • Help maintain high standards of scientific and technical work.
  • Support ongoing education and training activity within the service.
  • Follow all Trust and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Keep clinical records related to completed work and may enter or review test results produced by others.

Team and Organisation

The Trust values its staff and the wider community it serves. It is well regarded in the NHS and research sectors and offers strong employee benefits, including support for professional development and policies that help staff balance work and personal life.

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust operates with a budget of £1.2 billion, employs more than 18,500 people, spans five hospital sites, delivers care across more than forty community settings, and has a strong research reputation.

Training and Development

The South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Pathology Partnership is committed to training, development, and staff support. Opportunities may include academic courses, certificates of achievement, IBMS registration, specialist and higher specialist portfolios, apprenticeships, and leadership and management qualifications.

The partnership aims to create opportunities across all sites so staff can develop while helping maintain a strong, sustainable service for the future.
