Role overview
The Communications Advisor will sit within the Communications team and play a key part in delivering Tourism New Zealand’s strategy, plans, and activities. The role supports both internal and external corporate communications, provides engagement advice, and works across teams in Aotearoa New Zealand as well as offshore offices. It contributes to consumer-focused activity, helps ensure communication to the tourism industry is clear and consistent, and supports the organisation’s corporate reputation.
What you’ll be responsible for
- Helping deliver internal and external communications that support business strategy and engagement goals.
- Working with colleagues across New Zealand and offshore locations to coordinate communications activity.
- Supporting consumer campaigns and wider tourism industry communication.
- Contributing to the protection and development of the organisation’s corporate reputation.
- Writing and editing content for a range of audiences and channels.
- Managing digital communication activity, including content planning, performance review, and optimisation.
- Assisting with media-related work, including preparing media materials.
- Publishing and updating website content through content management systems.
- Using AI and digital communication tools with confidence and a willingness to keep developing capability.
- Building strong working relationships with stakeholders and collaborating effectively across teams.
- Applying sound judgement in a communications setting with awareness of reputational impact.
Skills and experience needed
- Excellent written communication skills with the ability to tailor messaging for different audiences and channels.
- Strong interpersonal ability and a collaborative working style.
- Comfort working in a fast-moving environment where priorities can change.
- Good planning and organisation skills, with the ability to juggle multiple tasks at once.
- A communications qualification at tertiary level, or equivalent relevant experience.
- At least 2 years’ experience in corporate communications.
- Experience delivering internal and external communications and engagement initiatives.
- Background in creating and refining high-quality content for digital, internal, and external platforms.
- Experience managing digital channels, including content planning, analytics, and performance improvement.
- Exposure to media support work, including drafting media communications.
- Hands-on experience using website CMS tools to publish and maintain content.
- Awareness of the New Zealand environment, including cultural sensitivity and the needs of varied audiences.
- Experience in a high-performing marketing setting, or familiarity with the travel and tourism sector, would be an advantage.
Additional information
This is a full-time, permanent position based in Wellington, New Zealand. Domestic travel may occasionally be required.
