Role overview

The Construction Manager will be responsible for leading and coordinating project construction activities within the Enviro division in Pune. This role calls for end-to-end ownership of execution, from planning and contractor management to safe delivery, documentation, and final closure of projects.

Responsibilities

  • Take overall charge of coordination, integrated planning, execution, monitoring, and closure of assigned projects in line with divisional goals and commitments.
  • Drive project planning and implementation, and work closely with the project manager to ensure upstream inputs are aligned and delivered on time.
  • Own the completion of construction work in the safest, fastest, and most cost-effective manner while meeting contractual requirements.
  • Identify project risks early and put mitigation measures in place well ahead of time.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed construction plans, including L2/L3 schedules, manpower and resource plans, crane and rigging plans, heavy lift studies, and method statements.
  • Choose, deploy, and oversee contractors for the project, including site mobilization and coordination of subcontractor resources.
  • Monitor deliverables through suitable tracking methods, guide the project team, and support successful completion, including PG testing and handover as scheduled.
  • Conduct regular reviews with construction contractors and site teams on progress, quality, resource needs, and customer expectations.
  • Manage project budgets, take part in cost reviews with finance, explain variances, and support customer collections and extra claims where needed.
  • Track project status continuously and share progress updates with stakeholders; participate in cross-functional meetings at headquarters and assess critical path, engineering, and material readiness.
  • Spot design-related issues that may affect execution and recommend actions that align with engineering processes while protecting the construction timeline.
  • Lead the site team, including people management, training, and development responsibilities.
  • Ensure all site work is carried out under proper supervision and in accordance with design specifications, standards, and HSQE requirements.
  • Maintain daily site records covering all activities, including labor and plant deployment, and ensure protocols and installation manuals are followed.
  • Complete project closure activities, including work completion, quality documentation, contractual commitments, and statutory and commercial closure.

Requirements

  • Qualification in DME or B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical or Electrical engineering.
  • 13 to 15 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong project management capability, especially in schedule and cost control.
  • Hands-on knowledge of air pollution control systems such as ESP, bag filters, and scrubbers.
  • Understanding of site activities, erection methods, and modern construction techniques.
  • Good knowledge of safety procedures and processes.
  • Working understanding of legal, commercial, and contract management matters.
  • Knowledge of construction quality management practices and standards.
  • Effective communication and people-management skills.
