Role overview
This position is focused on keeping large-scale database environments stable, performant, and highly available. The role combines hands-on database operations with engineering work to build tools that automate routine tasks and improve management efficiency.
Key responsibilities
- Own the design, monitoring, deployment, maintenance, troubleshooting, and tuning of database systems so they remain reliable, scalable, and available at all times.
- Build software utilities and internal tools that help automate database operations and make administration of large database instances more efficient.
- Develop mechanisms for detecting database faults, identifying root causes, and reducing impact so recovery from incidents happens faster.
- Work closely with application engineering teams to enhance database performance and overall system reliability.
- Take part in a 24/7 on-call rotation and respond to urgent database incidents whenever critical issues arise.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or above in Computer Science, Information Technology, Programming, Computer Studies, or a related field.
- Good grasp of TCP/IP, data structures, algorithms, and core concepts in operating systems, networking, databases, and computer architecture.
- Solid foundation in database concepts and architecture, including indexes, transactions, ACID, MVCC, Raft, sharding, CAP, and high availability.
- Practical experience with at least one backend programming language such as Python, Golang, or Java.
- Prior exposure to Unix/Linux systems and networking is an advantage.
- Hands-on experience with MySQL, Redis, MongoDB, HDFS, or HBase is preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities for working with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to work in both Chinese and English is preferred.
