About the Organization

The Status of Women Council of the NWT is hiring an Executive Director to lead day-to-day operations and help guide the organization’s work in support of women across the Northwest Territories.

Role Summary

This position is accountable for carrying out Council decisions and ensuring the organization runs effectively and efficiently. The Executive Director also serves as a senior staff leader, offering guidance, coordination, and support to the team.

Key Duties

  • Carry out the decisions and strategic directions approved by the Status of Women Council of the NWT.
  • Provide the Council with advice on administrative, staffing, financial, legal, and procedural matters.
  • Keep Council members informed on matters affecting women.
  • Oversee all human resource functions, including recruitment, termination, interviews, job descriptions, supervision, performance reviews, and employee development.
  • Handle external communications with the public and media by preparing press releases, organizing public meetings, building media relationships, and maintaining the Council’s website and email communications.
  • Build and sustain strong relationships with women’s groups in the NWT as well as Federal, Territorial, and Provincial Status of Women Councils and other major women’s organizations.
  • Prepare operational plans, budgets, annual reports, and policies and procedures for Council approval.
