Job overview
This role is responsible for keeping store floors, restrooms, and surrounding work areas clean, sanitary, and safe. The position also supports a welcoming shopping experience that strengthens customer trust and loyalty while reflecting an inclusive workplace culture that values different backgrounds and experiences.
Key duties
- Maintain cleanliness and order across the sales floor, liquor area, offices, breakrooms, backrooms, training rooms, and restrooms, with a particular focus on restroom upkeep and hazard prevention.
- Use floor-care machinery, department equipment, tools, and cleaning chemicals correctly to complete assigned cleaning tasks.
- Sweep and vacuum mats and rugs, return them to their proper places, remove carpet stains, empty trash, and carry out deep restroom cleaning.
- Create a store environment that helps customers feel welcomed and valued, and provide help when they need assistance locating or selecting products.
- Follow company expectations for sanitary store conditions on a daily basis.
- Maintain standards related to food safety, sanitation, proper food handling, USDA requirements, Country of Origin Labeling (COOL), and Department of Agriculture compliance.
- Carry out product recalls and withdrawals promptly, making sure affected items are secured and kept away from customers.
- Support safety efforts by following procedures, identifying unsafe conditions, notifying store management of risks, and reporting accidents involving customers or employees.
- Report theft, fraud, robbery, illegal activity, or other safety concerns to management.
- Follow wage-and-hour rules and internal policies.
- Help build a strong safety culture by ensuring associates work safely, receive required safety training, and have access to posted hazard assessments and personal protective equipment.
- Check that equipment remains in proper working condition and report safety issues, including helping with lockout/tagout remediation when required.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
The preferred education level is a high school diploma or GED. Prior relevant experience of 0 to 3 years is preferred. The role requires English and prefers Spanish. Candidates must be at least 18 years old, be authorized to work in the United States or be able to obtain such authorization, and successfully complete a pre-employment drug test and background check.
Working conditions
This is a retail, physically demanding position. Work may involve standing or walking for long periods on different floor surfaces, using both hands and feet for repetitive tasks, reaching overhead or at waist level, and lifting, carrying, pushing, or moving loads within required limits. Occasional sitting, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing up to 30 feet may be needed.
The work environment may include indoor and outdoor areas, as well as cold, freezing, heated, and wet or humid conditions. Safety exposure can include slippery or cluttered floors, sharp objects, loud noise, dust, fumes, sprays, hazardous cleaning products, skin irritants, and other toxins. Equipment commonly used includes cleaning supplies and equipment, office tools, register-related equipment, pricing tools, scales, scanners, and material-handling equipment such as racks, carts, pallet jacks, and shopping carts. Preferred equipment includes a baler/compactor and box cutter. Required protective gear includes goggles, gloves, and a back brace. Pulling requirement is 250 lbs and lifting requirement is 50 lbs.
Scheduling and travel
The shift pattern is varied. Travel is occasional, and overnight travel is not required.
