Role Overview
This position is part of the Food and Beverage & Culinary team at Sheraton Hotels & Resorts in Doha, Qatar. It is a full-time, non-management role based onsite at the Al Corniche Street location. The Head Hostess is responsible for creating a smooth and welcoming dining-room experience by managing guest arrival, seating, reservations, and table flow.
Key Duties
- Handle incoming calls, record reservations, and update guest details in the reservation system.
- Keep the waitlist current and provide guests with realistic wait-time estimates.
- Use the station rotation chart to assign seating fairly and efficiently.
- Arrange seating for larger parties and guests with special requirements.
- Welcome guests, confirm party size, and escort them to clean, available tables.
- Set up seating by pulling out chairs and ensuring menus and table settings are ready.
- Support guests as they move through the dining area and provide assistance when needed.
- Check that every table has the required place settings, including a napkin, clean cutlery, and any other standard items.
- Keep hostess and related work areas clean and organized throughout the shift.
- Observe dining-room occupancy, service flow, and safety conditions.
- Coordinate with team members so guest needs are met and service runs smoothly.
- Assist supervisors and management with hiring, training, scheduling, evaluation, counseling, discipline, and staff motivation when required.
- Serve as a positive example for the team and help maintain service quality standards.
- Comply with company policies, safety rules, security procedures, and required safety training.
- Report accidents, injuries, and unsafe conditions promptly.
- Maintain a neat, professional appearance and safeguard confidential company information and assets.
- Greet and acknowledge every guest according to brand standards.
- Use professional language and proper telephone etiquette in all interactions.
- Build cooperative working relationships and contribute to team goals.
- Respond appropriately to colleague concerns and help sustain a respectful workplace.
- Carry out additional reasonable duties assigned by supervisors.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- At least 1 year of relevant work experience.
- No prior supervisory experience required.
- No license or certification needed for this role.
- Ability to stand, sit, or walk for long periods.
- Capable of moving, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and placing objects up to 10 pounds without assistance.
- Strong communication and guest-handling etiquette.
- Ability to work closely with others and maintain a service-focused mindset.
