About the role
thePHO is seeking an IT Administrator who will help maintain reliable systems, support internal users, and protect sensitive patient information. The position is central to ensuring technology supports better healthcare outcomes, so clinical teams can stay focused on patient care.
Reporting to the Chief Digital Officer, you will take a practical, hands-on role in maintaining a secure, stable, and user-friendly digital environment. You will work as part of a small but effective team and have a meaningful impact across thePHO staff and general practices throughout Aotearoa.
The role spans Microsoft 365, cloud platforms, endpoint devices, and helpdesk assistance, all within a secure and compliant national health setting. The organisation operates remotely first and offers flexibility by default.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain the Microsoft 365 ecosystem, including Exchange, Teams, SharePoint, Intune, and related services.
- Provide everyday IT support to staff, ranging from simple fixes to more involved troubleshooting.
- Administer user accounts, permissions, and devices so the right people have appropriate access when needed.
- Track security alerts and take action to help safeguard confidential health data.
- Keep systems aligned with security and compliance requirements for national health standards.
- Support cloud services, backups, and infrastructure to ensure dependable day-to-day operations.
- Assist general practices with IT questions and systems-related support.
About you
You are likely someone who enjoys solving technical problems, supporting people, and improving how systems work. You bring a practical mindset, communicate clearly, and are comfortable working in a role where your contribution is visible every day.
Ideally, you have around 3 or more years of experience in IT administration. You should be confident working with Microsoft 365 and managing endpoints or devices. A sound grasp of cybersecurity fundamentals such as multi-factor authentication and patch management is important, along with strong troubleshooting ability and the confidence to explain technical matters in straightforward language.
Experience in health or primary care is a plus, particularly with platforms such as Medtech, Indici, or MyPractice. Above all, you value privacy, security, and quality support for others.
