Role overview
The Substation Manager will lead the full delivery cycle for high-voltage substation infrastructure, covering design, execution, commissioning, and final handover. The focus is on systems such as 132/33 kV and 132/11 kV that support critical environments including data centers and major infrastructure developments.
This position is accountable for ensuring that power infrastructure is delivered safely, on schedule, and to a high standard while meeting the rules and technical expectations of utility authorities such as DEWA, SEWA, and ADDC, along with equivalent international bodies. The role also involves close coordination with consultants, contractors, utility teams, and internal departments to support reliable grid integration and long-term operational performance.
What you will handle
- Lead planning, design validation, execution, and final delivery of high-voltage substation projects in the 132/33/11 kV range.
- Manage the complete project lifecycle, including engineering design, procurement support, site construction, testing, commissioning, and handover.
- Coordinate with utility providers and ensure the work aligns with regulatory, technical, and safety standards.
- Make sure the project meets N-1 redundancy expectations and Tier III/IV requirements where relevant, especially for data center reliability.
- Work closely with internal teams such as MEP, infrastructure, and data center operations to ensure integrated delivery.
- Review and approve technical submissions, IFC and as-built drawings, inspection and test plans, method statements, and commissioning documents.
- Drive authority approvals, energization steps, and grid interconnection activities.
- Monitor contractor output, project progress, budget control, and schedule performance.
- Identify technical risks, design clashes, and delays, then put corrective actions in place.
- Oversee testing and commissioning activities such as primary and secondary injection testing, relay coordination, transformer energization, and grid synchronization.
- Maintain strong HSE practices and quality controls across all site operations.
- Prepare project updates, manage documentation, and communicate with stakeholders through EDMS and project control platforms.
Additional information
The role is centered on mission-critical power infrastructure and requires strong ownership of delivery, compliance, and coordination across multiple parties. Experience in high-voltage utility-facing environments and data center-related power systems will be especially valuable.
