About Tokamak Energy
Tokamak Energy is a pioneering company at the forefront of fusion energy and high-temperature superconducting (HTS) technologies. We collaborate with governmental bodies and industry partners to advance and commercialize fusion and HTS solutions through continuous innovation and strategic alliances. A significant aspect of our work involves end-to-end capabilities in HTS systems, encompassing both design and manufacturing. We are recognized as the Magnet Systems Partner for the UK Government's STEP Fusion program, operating under a substantial contract until 2029. Our role includes delivering HTS magnet systems for the STEP prototype power plant and contributing to tokamak systems and plasma integration. Established in 2009 as a spin-off from the UK Atomic Energy Authority, Tokamak Energy is based in Oxfordshire, with international subsidiaries in the United States and Japan. We currently employ over 300 professionals and have successfully secured more than £280 million in funding. Our operations are structured across three divisions: Fusion, focusing on fusion energy technologies and expertise for government and private programs, including the ST40 spherical tokamak; TE Magnetics, specializing in HTS systems for commercial applications such as fusion energy, power distribution, life sciences, and propulsion; and Ridgway Machines, which manufactures equipment for the superconducting, electrical, and broader energy sectors, facilitating the rapid industrialization of HTS products.
