Role overview
Tadawi General Hospital in Dammam is looking for a Medical Coder to accurately translate diagnoses, procedures, and other medical services into approved coding standards. The purpose of this role is to support correct billing, reliable statistical reporting, and smooth insurance claim handling while staying aligned with Saudi Ministry of Health requirements and Council of Health Insurance standards.
Core duties
- Go through patient charts, clinical notes, surgery reports, and lab/radiology findings to identify the needed coding details.
- Convert diagnoses and procedures into standard codes using ICD-10-AM and ACHI, with ACS guidelines as applicable.
- Check that medical records are complete and accurate before codes are assigned.
- Confirm that coded services match billed services and that the medical file and invoice are consistent.
- Prepare statistical and analytical reports based on coded clinical data.
- Investigate denied or rejected claims and correct coding-related issues.
- Work with physicians, nurses, and administrative teams to clarify unclear or incomplete documentation.
- Protect patient information and follow all medical confidentiality and privacy rules.
- Support training efforts for clinical staff on proper documentation practices.
- Keep knowledge current with coding updates, NPHIES requirements, and local insurance claim standards.
Skills and knowledge needed
- Strong command of ICD-10-AM, ACHI, and ACS coding systems.
- Working familiarity with NPHIES and Saudi health insurance claim procedures.
- Solid understanding of medical terminology and human anatomy.
- Careful attention to detail with strong analytical ability.
- Comfort using hospital information systems and electronic medical records.
- Good communication skills for cross-functional coordination.
- Ability to manage deadlines and perform well under pressure.
Qualifications
A diploma or bachelor's degree in Medical Coding, Health Information Management (HIM), or Medical Records is required. A recognized coding credential, such as certification from the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS), is also expected.
