Role overview
An expanding civil contractor based in Langley, British Columbia is hiring an Operations Manager to take charge of its Project Management and Estimating functions. The business focuses on civil infrastructure, site services, utilities, excavation, and shoring work. This position reports directly to ownership and is central to improving execution, supporting growth plans, and strengthening overall project performance.
Key responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and supervise a team of 3 Project Managers and 2 Estimators while keeping their work aligned with company goals and expectations.
- Partner with ownership to shape and deliver operational plans, business strategy, and growth initiatives.
- Oversee projects end-to-end, from pre-construction through closeout, with attention to safety, profitability, and efficiency.
- Assess schedules, budgets, staffing needs, resource use, and overall performance across several active projects.
- Assist the estimating group with bid planning, risk review, pricing checks, and proposal preparation.
- Champion ongoing improvements that raise operational efficiency, project delivery quality, and margin performance.
- Build and maintain productive relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
- Help resolve delivery issues, contract-related concerns, and operational constraints as they arise.
- Track KPIs, financial results, and project outcomes, then identify actions that can improve performance.
- Create a workplace culture centered on accountability, ownership, teamwork, and strong results.
Candidate profile
- Background in civil construction project management and estimating, with familiarity in both delivery and pre-construction work.
- Prior experience leading Project Managers, Estimators, or project teams is an advantage, though not mandatory.
- Suitable for either an experienced Operations Manager or a driven Project Manager/Estimator ready to move into an operational leadership role.
- Strategic and proactive mindset with the ability to identify improvements and take responsibility for outcomes.
- Highly organized, detail-focused, and commercially aware.
- Exposure to civil infrastructure, utilities, excavation, site servicing, shoring, or other heavy civil projects.
- Solid understanding of project financials, estimating, budgets, scheduling, and contract administration.
- Experience with major, complex bids and heavy civil work is a strong advantage.
- Strong verbal and written communication, leadership, problem-solving, and relationship-building abilities.
- Comfortable working closely with ownership and contributing to long-term business growth.
