Salesperson / Store Driver

Role overview

This position is an entry-level store role focused on supporting DIY customers and helping the store meet sales and service targets. It requires working knowledge of store systems, a basic understanding of automotive systems and parts, and the ability to source products from stores, hubs, PDQ locations, and outside vendors. Strong familiarity with store inventory and maintenance processes is expected. The role may be offered as part-time or full-time, and fleet safety certification is preferred.

Salesperson responsibilities

• Create a positive buying experience for DIY customers in person and over the phone.
• Work toward individual sales goals while contributing to overall store performance.
• Provide DIY support services such as battery installation, battery testing, and wiper installation.
• Keep product presentation and store operations aligned with company standards.
• Handle inventory-related tasks including truck put-away, shoot-outs, cycle counts, and back-stock management.

Store driver responsibilities

This side of the role supports delivery operations for commercial customers and helps with in-store tasks and inventory processes. The position can also be part-time or full-time and requires fleet safety certification.

• Deliver parts safely to customers when required.
• Prepare and stage parts for customer orders.
• Collect returns and cores from customers.
• Distribute weekly and monthly sales flyers.
• Handle daily collection activity for credit accounts.

Additional duties

• Keep the store clean, including floors, bathrooms, merchandising faces, dusting, and the parking lot.
• Support general stocking duties, including truck stocking and back-stock replenishment.

Success factors

• Comfortable with basic driving and route navigation.
• Able to use the delivery board system effectively.
• Clear, friendly communication style.
• Ability to find, organize, and stock parts correctly.
• Solid awareness of safety practices.
• Experience using inventory systems and store equipment.
• Knowledge of automotive parts and systems.
• Ability to work with POS and parts lookup tools.
• Strong ability to use testing and diagnostic equipment for DIY services.

Skills and work requirements

• Must be able to speak and write in English; Spanish is an advantage.
• Should communicate well and build productive relationships with customers, peers, and managers.
• Must be able to read safety rules, operating instructions, maintenance guides, parts catalogs, and procedure manuals.
• Requires accurate basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
• Must be available to work various days, evenings, and weekends as needed.

Preferred experience

• Two to three years of successful sales experience in a varied retail setting, with a record of strong customer service.

Store driver qualifications

• Automotive parts experience is preferred.
• A valid driver's license is required.
• Fleet safety certification is required for the driving function.

Physical demands

This role is primarily active and involves standing or walking for most of the shift. The employee must be able to talk and hear, handle objects with hands and fingers, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Frequent lifting or moving of up to 50 pounds is required, and occasional lifting or moving of up to 100 pounds may be necessary. The job also requires close, distance, color, and depth vision, along with the ability to adjust focus.

Work environment

The job is usually performed indoors, but there may be occasional outdoor work in varying weather conditions, such as when installing batteries or wiper blades. The role can also involve exposure to moving mechanical parts, high places, toxic or caustic chemicals, electrical shock hazards, explosives, and vibration. Noise levels are generally moderate.
