Position overview

School District 60 has an opening for a School Bus Driver serving the Baldonnel area. Drivers are employed by the district and assigned where transportation needs require, so route coverage may change over time.

This role reports to the Transportation Supervisor and focuses on transporting students safely to and from school, along with scheduled and unscheduled trips.

Work schedule and compensation

The position is set for 5.5 hours per day, 5 days per week, across a 10-month work year. The expected start date is September 8, 2026. The starting rate of pay is $31.06 per hour.

Key duties

  • Drive school buses of varying sizes and types safely in different road and weather conditions to transport students.
  • Complete daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections to confirm the bus is safe and road ready, and record the results on the inspection form.
  • Report mechanical issues or faults in safety devices promptly to the Working Foreman, Dispatcher, or Transportation Supervisor.
  • Teach students bus safety rules and procedures, and carry out emergency evacuation drills when directed.
  • Maintain discipline on the bus and escalate behavioural concerns to the Transportation Supervisor or Administrative Officer.
  • Support bus student registration by distributing and collecting forms and preparing temporary student lists and route maps.
  • Keep the assigned bus clean inside and out, including disinfecting the interior at least once a week.
  • Provide minor first aid when required.
  • Follow workplace safety rules, keep the work area secure, and operate equipment and vehicles according to established standards.
  • Handle hazardous materials safely in line with WHMIS and use equipment and hand tools properly.
  • Report vandalism involving equipment or property to the appropriate supervisor or administrator.
  • Comply with Motor Vehicle Act requirements.
  • Carry out other duties related to the position as assigned.

Qualifications and attributes

  • Grade 10 education or equivalent.
  • Minimum Class 2 driver's licence with air brake endorsement.
  • Clean driving abstract.
  • Two years of recent bus driving experience within the last five years is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • WHMIS certification and any other online safety training provided by the district must be completed during the probationary period.
  • Additional safety training or certifications provided by the district must be completed when required.
  • Must be able to pass a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Search before employment begins.
  • Comfortable handling difficult conversations in a professional way.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well as part of a team.
