Role overview
This position is for a Mechanical Design Engineer focused on sheet metal and CAD design. The role calls for solid experience in SolidWorks, GD&T, and the creation of manufacturable mechanical designs. You will prepare drawings, engineering documents, and design records while keeping the work aligned with product specifications and design standards. Experience with PLM platforms, especially Enovia, will be considered an advantage.
Key responsibilities
- Develop sheet metal parts, assemblies, and complete products in SolidWorks.
- Build and update 3D CAD models, 2D production drawings, and related engineering documentation.
- Use GD&T correctly in both part-level and assembly-level designs.
- Review designs to ensure they can be manufactured efficiently, meet cost targets, and comply with engineering standards.
- Prepare detailed BOMs and assist with engineering change management activities.
- Work with teams across manufacturing, sourcing, quality, and project management.
- Keep design data and documents organized in PLM systems.
- Contribute to prototype development, testing, and product validation work.
- Support product improvement efforts and initiatives aimed at reducing cost.
Skills and requirements
- BE/B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
- Strong working knowledge of GD&T.
- Practical experience in sheet metal design.
- Good CAD modeling and drafting capability.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks.
- Ability to produce manufacturing-ready drawings and technical documentation.
- Understanding of manufacturing methods and design-for-manufacturing principles.
- Exposure to Enovia or similar PLM/PDM tools is beneficial.
- Familiarity with product lifecycle management processes.
- Experience with new product development or new product introduction.
- Exposure to design validation and engineering change management workflows.
