Senior System Engineer

Role overview

Belay Technologies is hiring a Senior System Engineer (SE3) for its intelligence-focused team. The role centers on turning user needs and high-level architectures into clear system requirements, then driving design, development, and implementation work through to delivery. The position calls for strong technical leadership across requirements, design, integration, and system engineering governance.

Key responsibilities

You will work on defining and refining system requirements, shaping design decisions, and ensuring technical solutions are feasible and aligned with operational needs. The role includes preparing technical documentation, system architecture materials, and engineering management plans, while also supporting system integration and test planning. You will coordinate with government stakeholders and other program participants, and remain accountable for the technical quality and completeness of the work and deliverables in the systems engineering area.

Required qualifications

The role requires a Scrum certification, experience working with a Product Owner on SAFe/agile events such as sprint reviews, Inspect and Adapt sessions, and Program Increment planning, and a CI polygraph completed within the last 5 years. Candidates must also hold an active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph from within the last 5 years. Educational and experience pathways include one of the following: a high school diploma or GED with 24 years of general systems engineering experience; a bachelor’s degree in a qualified engineering field or related discipline with 7 years of systems engineering experience; a master’s degree in a qualified engineering field or related discipline with 5 years of systems engineering experience; or a PhD in a qualified engineering field or related discipline with 3 years of systems engineering experience.

Compensation and benefits

The posted salary range is $168,000 to $240,000 annually. Belay notes that final pay depends on factors such as location, federal contract labor category, contract wage rates, prior experience, education, relevant skills, and certifications.
