About the role
This role is part of the Core team, which builds the technical backbone behind flagship products and helps shape the systems, platforms, and infrastructure used across the organization. The team works on foundational components that support safe, coherent, and scalable user experiences, while also contributing to product innovation and technical direction. The work environment is fast-moving and may involve switching between projects as business needs evolve.
The project referenced in this opening involves HighTide, an open-source tooling effort that adds capabilities used for frequent measurement of hardware improvements in YouTube’s Video Coding Unit (VCU).
Minimum qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent level of practical experience.
- At least 2 years of hands-on software programming experience in C++, Java, Python, or Go.
Preferred qualifications
- A master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science or a closely related technical discipline.
- At least 2 years of experience working with data structures and algorithms.
- Background in designing, implementing, and evaluating advanced algorithms.
- Experience building accessible technologies.
- Exposure to the EDA tooling ecosystem used in chip design, or familiarity with the algorithmic methods commonly applied in such tools.
Responsibilities
- Develop product and system-level software code.
- Participate in design reviews with teammates and stakeholders to help choose the right technologies.
- Examine code written by others and give actionable feedback on style, correctness, testability, efficiency, and code-check-in practices.
- Update documentation and educational materials to reflect product or program changes and user feedback.
- Investigate, isolate, and fix product or system problems by tracing issues to their source and assessing their effect on hardware, network, or service quality.
