About the role

Dragonfli Group is a cybersecurity and IT consulting organization that works with federal agencies and large enterprise clients. The team supports mission-critical environments across on-site, hybrid, and fully remote setups. In this fully remote opportunity, the selected Technical Writer will help support a major U.S. federal agency’s cybersecurity program by turning complex security information into documentation that is clear, precise, and easy to use.

In this position, you will work closely with cybersecurity engineers, analysts, and program managers to create and improve written materials that support compliance and strengthen the agency’s security posture. The ideal candidate brings 2–3 years of technical writing experience in a cybersecurity or IT setting, along with strong familiarity with NIST, NIST CSF, and CIS frameworks. Experience using AI tools is considered an advantage.

This is a multi-year contract assignment tied to a large federal agency. Prior federal contracting experience is preferred. U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is required, and all work must be performed from within the continental United States.

Responsibilities

  • Convert detailed cybersecurity concepts, procedures, and findings into easy-to-understand content for technical and non-technical readers.
  • Prepare and update documentation such as policies, procedures, user guides, standard operating procedures, and program reports.
  • Use NIST, NIST Cybersecurity Framework (CSF), and CIS Controls as reference points when structuring documentation.
  • Work with subject matter experts, engineers, and program managers to collect information and confirm technical accuracy.
  • Contribute to cybersecurity communications, including briefings, presentations, and executive summaries.
  • Revise existing materials to improve readability, consistency, correctness, and alignment with agency writing standards.
  • Help document the use of AI tools within the program environment where applicable.
  • Keep documentation repositories organized and manage version control according to program requirements.
  • Take part in team discussions and assist with sprint planning or milestone reviews when needed.

Requirements

  • 2–3 years of technical writing experience in a cybersecurity or IT environment.
  • Proven ability to simplify complex technical information into clear, natural-language content for different audiences.
  • Working knowledge of NIST, NIST CSF, and/or CIS Controls.
  • Broad cybersecurity understanding that supports collaboration with technical teams.
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residency (Green Card).
  • Ability to pass a federal background screening and obtain public trust clearance.
  • Must be able to perform all work from within the continental United States.
  • Experience supporting federal agencies or government contracting environments is preferred.
  • Familiarity with AI tools in a professional writing or documentation setting is a plus.
  • Experience with document management or version control platforms is beneficial.
  • Comfort using Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, or similar collaboration tools.
  • Exposure to frameworks such as RMF, FedRAMP, or FISMA is advantageous.
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Technical Writing, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline is preferred.

Perks and benefits

  • Medical coverage with multiple POS plan options, including an HSA-compatible choice.
  • Dental insurance with PPO coverage for preventive, basic, and major care.
  • Vision benefits covering annual exams, frames, lenses, and contact lens allowance.
  • 401(k) plan with employer match of up to 5% of eligible compensation.
  • Annual PTO ranging from 15 to 25 days based on tenure, plus 16 hours of floating PTO from day one.
  • 11 paid federal holidays each year.
