Position summary

The Application Engineer will act as a technical partner to the Sales and Tendering teams during the bidding process. The role centers on assessing pump selections, reviewing customer requirements, preparing early-stage design outputs, and supporting costing and bid preparation. It also includes technical analysis, identifying risks, and helping define mitigation actions.

This opportunity is aimed at experienced professionals who have solid knowledge of pump design, development, and selection, and who can apply that expertise to deliver effective technical solutions. Proposed approaches are typically checked and confirmed with senior colleagues before being finalized.

Key responsibilities

• Support Sales and Tendering teams with technical inputs throughout the bid cycle.
• Examine pump selections created by the Tendering team and confirm that they meet technical and optimization requirements.
• Read and assess client specifications, especially where the scope includes critical or unusual needs.
• Work with the Design Responsible team to gather additional engineering inputs and solution options.
• Communicate with customers to understand application-specific needs and reflect them in the design layout.
• Coordinate with suppliers to clarify technical questions and resolve open points.
• Interface with other Sulzer legal entities, including SPUK, SPDE, SPSZH, and SPUSA, to exchange expertise and obtain technical support.
• Assist the Costing team during the quotation stage with technical information and clarification.
• Develop preliminary Pump General Arrangement drawings for customer review and submission.
• Work out estimated not-to-exceed dimensions using pump selections and buyout drawings.
• Partner with Order Engineering teams such as Hydraulics, Bare Pump, Packaging, Instrumentation, and Electrical to handle non-standard or special requirements.
• Support Operations, Purchase, Sales, and Tendering teams during technical evaluation activities.
• Contribute to initiatives that strengthen workplace safety, environmental responsibility, and continuous improvement.
