Role overview
An established labour supplier is looking for an experienced Appointed Person (Lifting Operations) for a long-term assignment in Tilbury, England. The position is intended to provide steady work, continuity, and involvement in a significant project with a reputable contractor.
What you will do
In this role, you will take ownership of the safe preparation, coordination, and delivery of lifting operations on site. You will work alongside site managers, crane operators, supervisors, and subcontractors to make sure every lift is planned and carried out in line with current law and industry best practice.
- Draft and approve lift plans for both standard and complex lifting activities.
- Create and review risk assessments and method statements.
- Ensure lifting work complies with LOLER, BS 7121, and all applicable health and safety rules.
- Choose appropriate cranes, lifting gear, and accessories for each planned lift.
- Carry out site inspections and evaluate lifting needs, ground conditions, and site hazards.
- Coordinate lifting work with site personnel and subcontractors.
- Brief crane supervisors, slinger signallers, and other lifting staff on the lift plan and safe systems of work.
- Oversee lifting operations to confirm they follow the approved method.
- Keep lifting records and documentation complete and up to date.
- Look for practical ways to improve lifting methods and overall site safety.
- Assist site management in maintaining high standards of safety and operational effectiveness.
Essential requirements
- CPCS A61 Appointed Person certification, or the NPORS equivalent.
- Demonstrable background in planning and managing lifting operations in construction, industrial, infrastructure, or heavy civils settings.
- Strong working knowledge of LOLER and BS 7121.
- Good organisational and communication ability.
- Capability to prepare detailed lift plans and related paperwork.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable experience
- Previous exposure to major infrastructure or port-based projects.
- Extra CPCS qualifications.
- SMSTS or SSSTS.
- First Aid at Work certificate.
