Bartender

Job Summary

In this role, you will work with limited supervision to coordinate the activities needed to run Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) bar and facility operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve alcoholic beverages such as beer and wine, while ensuring the minimum serving age of 21 is observed.
• Mix drinks according to the venue’s approved recipes and standards.
• Prepare garnishes and support drink presentation.
• Apply alcohol safety practices to reduce the risk of over-service and intoxication.
• Use correct bar terms and maintain familiarity with standard bar operations.
• Remain on your feet for extended periods as required by the job.
• Check identification in line with applicable state rules before serving alcohol.
• Handle intoxicated guests appropriately and in accordance with established procedures.
• Process alcohol purchases using point-of-sale software and the cash register.
• Explain menu items and serve food from the establishment’s kitchen/menu.
• Keep bar equipment, glassware, tools, and utensils clean and in good working order.
• Deliver courteous, helpful customer service at all times.
• Reduce liability associated with excessive alcohol service by monitoring consumption and discouraging impaired driving.
• Follow required sanitation practices in line with Army and preventive medicine requirements.
• Adhere to all applicable procedures, processes, and policies.
• Carry out other related duties as assigned.

Skills and Knowledge

• Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
• Knowledge of safe alcohol service practices.
• Understanding of basic bar terminology and beverage preparation.
• Ability to use point-of-sale systems and cash registers.
• Ability to maintain cleanliness and sanitation in a bar setting.
• Ability to manage difficult situations involving intoxicated patrons.
• Comfort working long shifts while standing.
• CPR and first aid certification preferred.
• Familiarity with exercise science, health, and fitness is preferred.

Experience and Education

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. You should have at least 2 years of experience coordinating organized team sports, recreation club activities, and scheduling social events. Prior MWR or armed forces experience is preferred.

Work Environment

This assignment may involve remote and challenging living and working conditions. The role can include long hours, exposure to weather, and potentially hazardous situations. Personnel should also be prepared to relocate on short notice and operate under difficult circumstances.
