Job overview
The Cage Supervisor leads cage team members and supports the Cage Manager in day-to-day cage operations. This role is centered on cash control, accurate transaction handling, staff coordination, customer service, and adherence to regulatory and company procedures.
Key responsibilities
- Follow all company administrative policies, departmental procedures, safety requirements, and health regulations.
- Supervise cage staff by assigning work, coaching team members, and monitoring performance.
- Deliver professional, friendly service to internal and external guests while helping maintain a positive work atmosphere.
- Be available for schedules that may include weekends, holidays, overtime, and other non-standard hours.
- Communicate clearly and accurately with coworkers and guests while demonstrating strong commitment to the organization.
- Use advanced cage-operation knowledge to verify large cash transactions, handle money exchanges and conversions, count and sign for banks, maintain records, and operate related systems and equipment.
- Comply with Title 31 procedures at all times.
- Resolve disputes in a calm, professional manner and ensure high standards of service for both employees and customers.
- Support cage opening and closing activities based on operational needs and maintain scheduling flexibility.
- Apply basic understanding of management, human resources, and budgeting concepts.
- Stay informed about interdepartmental paper flow, ATM drops, kiosk drops, drop/soft count processes, and mutuels procedures.
- Maintain strong numerical accuracy and skill in cash handling, money counting, and complex calculations.
- Build guest loyalty through respectful, personalized interactions and prompt, courteous service.
- Work collaboratively with teammates, support a positive culture, remain open to coaching, and adapt well to change.
- Learn the property’s services, amenities, room locations, and surroundings well enough to give accurate directions and information about promotions and special events.
- Maintain courteous and professional relationships with coworkers, clients, vendors, and the public.
- Handle pressure well, keep regular attendance, and be dependable for scheduled work.
- Take on any other tasks assigned as needed.
Required skills and abilities
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Hands-on experience with SuccessFactors.
- Experience using money-counting and money-sorting equipment, as well as 10-key calculators.
- Comfort using standard office tools including computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
- Ability to type and maintain accurate reports and records.
Physical requirements
This position involves frequent bending, crawling, crouching, kneeling, reaching overhead, standing, talking, turning, walking, seeing, and repetitive hand use. It also requires balancing and climbing for part of the time. Most of the workday may involve sitting, speaking, hearing, and repetitive hand movements, with occasional standing and walking. The role may also require occasional pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying, and sliding or transferring items weighing 1 to 30 lbs.
Mental demands
The role requires regular problem-solving, organization, data interpretation, reading, and writing. Decision-making and planning are also needed for a significant portion of the work.
Education and experience
A high school diploma or GED is preferred. Candidates should have at least 2 years of supervisory experience involving cash handling and must also have relevant experience in cash handling or a cage cashier role.
Licensing and certification
The successful candidate must be able to obtain and keep a valid license issued by the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission (KHRC).
