Role Overview
The Commercial Director will lead the organization’s commercial direction and overall business performance. This senior leadership position is responsible for shaping and delivering commercial plans that support the company’s vision, growth priorities, and business objectives. The role requires deep experience in building practical commercial strategies, evaluating market conditions, forecasting sales, and driving revenue. It also involves guiding a strong commercial team, building trusted relationships with clients, partners, and internal stakeholders, and using data-driven judgment to spot opportunities in a complex market. The position reports to executive leadership and contributes directly to long-term business growth.
Responsibilities
- Create and roll out end-to-end commercial plans that support organizational goals, increase revenue, and expand market reach.
- Manage, coach, and develop the commercial team to ensure alignment with business priorities and a high-performance culture.
- Study market trends, customer behavior, and the competitive landscape to identify new opportunities and growth segments.
- Work closely with the marketing function to shape targeted promotional initiatives that improve reach and brand presence.
- Build and sustain strong relationships with major clients and other stakeholders while handling accounts and supporting customer satisfaction.
- Plan and monitor the commercial budget, ensuring resources are used efficiently and returns are optimized.
- Review sales forecasts and performance data to generate practical insights that improve sales effectiveness and operating efficiency.
- Lead contract and agreement negotiations with clients and partners while protecting the organization’s interests.
- Track industry changes and competitor activity to anticipate shifts and adjust strategy proactively.
- Prepare regular updates for executive leadership covering commercial results, market intelligence, and strategic recommendations.
Requirements
- At least 10 years of progressive experience in commercial leadership positions within the relevant industry sector.
- Strong experience in designing and implementing commercial strategies that deliver growth in revenue and market penetration.
- Ability to assess market movements, customer demand, and competitor positioning to guide business decisions.
- Solid financial understanding, including budgeting, forecasting, and analysis of performance indicators.
- Proven leadership skills with experience building and managing strong teams.
- Excellent negotiation and conflict-resolution ability, with influence across different stakeholder groups.
- Experience developing strategic partnerships and alliances that strengthen business competitiveness.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present complex ideas clearly to varied audiences.
- Comfort working with cross-functional teams to align commercial plans with operational capability.
