Role overview
We are looking for customer service professionals to join a busy public-sector contact centre in Palmerston North. This position supports a government agency in a high-volume inbound call environment and suits someone who enjoys helping people, works well in a fast-moving setting, and can stay composed when things get busy. The assignment is intended to offer long-term stability, with potential for an extension or a move into a permanent role.
Key responsibilities
- Respond to incoming calls from the public and handle enquiries professionally.
- Give clear, accurate information and work through customer issues to resolution where possible.
- Record details and updates in internal systems.
- Manage interactions with care, patience, and empathy.
- Work across several systems while maintaining speed and accuracy.
- Refer more complex matters to the right internal team.
What we are looking for
- Strong spoken and written communication abilities.
- Prior experience in customer-facing roles such as contact centre, hospitality, retail, reception, or a similar environment.
- A calm, understanding, and practical approach to problem-solving.
- Comfort using technology and picking up new systems quickly.
- Good attention to detail and the ability to juggle several tasks at once.
- Willingness to work on a seven-day roster.
- A dependable, upbeat, and collaborative attitude.
Work schedule and contract details
The assignment begins on 3 August 2026 and is a temporary placement for a minimum of 12 months. A minimum of 25 hours per week is guaranteed. Shifts run Monday through Sunday between 6:00 am and 12:00 am, with most shifts expected in the afternoons, evenings, and weekends. You must be available for at least five days across the seven-day roster, including weekends. Full-time paid training will run for approximately four weeks, and attendance is required.
Pay
The role pays $28.95 per hour.
