Data Analyst / Data Scientist

Role overview

This part-time, remote role focuses on supporting research and policy work through careful, evidence-based analysis. The position is centered on working with datasets linked to public policy, governance, and social and economic indicators, and turning that data into usable insights for studies, reports, and policy documents.

Key duties

• Gather, prepare, clean, and verify data coming from multiple sources.
• Perform statistical analysis and create analytical models to support research work.
• Write queries, run data pulls, and manage routine data extraction tasks.
• Develop dashboards, charts, and other visual outputs to present findings clearly.
• Document methods, assumptions, and results in a way that is easy to understand.
• Work with faculty and research teams to interpret outputs and shape recommendations for decision-makers.

Qualifications

• Strong analytical ability and proven experience working with large, complex datasets.
• Good grounding in statistics and data modeling, with the ability to choose suitable quantitative techniques.
• Clear communication skills, both written and spoken, with the ability to explain technical results to non-technical audiences.
• Working knowledge of data tools and programming languages such as Python, R, and SQL, along with visualization tools like Tableau or Power BI.
• Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Economics, Public Policy, Computer Science, or a similar discipline; a master’s or other graduate degree is an added advantage.
• Prior involvement in research or policy-related projects, especially in government, public policy, or social science settings, is preferred.
• Comfort working independently in a remote setup, handling several tasks at once, and meeting deadlines without compromising data quality.
