Role Overview
Parts Avatar is hiring a Data Scientist to join a fast-moving, analytical team. This position suits someone who enjoys working independently, has a strong quantitative mindset, and likes turning raw data into practical business decisions. The work is centered on key e-commerce priorities such as personalization, marketing effectiveness, demand forecasting, and return reduction.
Location & Work Setup
The position is based in Downtown Montreal, Quebec, with a hybrid arrangement of 3 days in the office and 2 days working remotely.
Key Responsibilities
- Gather, clean, and examine data from multiple sources to uncover patterns, trends, and opportunities.
- Build, deploy, and support machine learning models that forecast demand and improve inventory and fulfillment planning.
- Lead data science projects focused on personalization and recommendation systems to improve customer experience.
- Study marketing performance data to measure attribution and support better acquisition and retention decisions.
- Create analytical methods for returns data to identify underlying causes and suggest ways to reduce them.
- Work with cross-functional teams to understand their data requirements and convert them into useful recommendations.
- Develop and maintain KPI dashboards and reports that track business health and performance.
- Translate analytical findings into clear, actionable business insights.
Qualifications
A degree is required in a quantitative discipline such as Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. A master's degree is preferred.
Technical Requirements
Strong hands-on experience with the Python data ecosystem is needed, including tools such as Pandas, Polars, NumPy, Scikit-learn, and TensorFlow or PyTorch. Candidates should also be fluent in SQL for querying and working with data, understand machine learning concepts and algorithms, and be comfortable with data visualization. Familiarity with Jira, Confluence, and Git is also expected.
Soft Skills
The ideal candidate should be proactive, able to work on their own initiative, and comfortable collaborating with others. The role also calls for strong multitasking ability and a genuine interest in learning and developing professionally.
Work Authorization
Applicants must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
Language Requirements
English proficiency in both spoken and written form is required, since it is the main working language for teams in Ontario and Quebec. French is considered an advantage.
