Role overview

This position is for an Electrical Design Engineer responsible for planning, analyzing, and coordinating electrical systems for construction and renovation projects. The role reports to the Senior Electrical Engineer and requires the preparation of technical drawings, load calculations, and system layouts while maintaining compliance with relevant local regulations and international standards. Close collaboration with MEP specialists, architects, consultants, and contractors is an important part of the job.

Key responsibilities

The role covers electrical design development, technical coordination, compliance review, documentation, and the use of design software.

• Create electrical design deliverables such as single line diagrams, load schedules, lighting layouts, power distribution layouts, and ELV system drawings.
• Carry out short-circuit studies, voltage-drop calculations, and cable sizing to support safe and efficient system performance.
• Ensure all designs follow the requirements of ADDC, ADM, Civil Defense, and other applicable authorities in Abu Dhabi.
• Work with mechanical and structural teams so electrical systems are properly integrated with the overall project design.
• Oversee drafting resources assigned to individual projects.
• Prepare technical reports, bills of quantities, and material specifications for review by the Senior Electrical Engineer.
• Participate in design reviews and clash detection to address coordination issues before construction begins.
• Coordinate with consultants, contractors, and suppliers to keep technical requirements aligned across all parties.
• Confirm that designs comply with IEEE, NEC, IEC, and local authority standards.
• Support risk assessments and feasibility studies to improve design outcomes.
• Assist in meeting energy-efficiency and sustainability targets for each project.
• Use software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Dialux, ETAP, and related tools to produce design outputs and simulations.
• Develop 3D models and simulations for clearer and more accurate representation of the design.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a closely related discipline is required.
• Applicants should have 5 to 10 years of experience in electrical design engineering, ideally within MEP or hotel construction projects.
• Strong capability in electrical system design, including power distribution, lighting, ELV, and grounding.
• Experience with load calculations, short-circuit analysis, and single line diagram preparation.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit MEP, Dialux, ETAP, and other electrical design software.
• Ability to coordinate effectively with HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection teams in an MEP environment.
• Good working knowledge of IEC, NEC, BS, DEWA, ADDC, ADM, and ESTIDAMA standards.
• Understanding of lighting design and control systems for efficient energy use.
• Hands-on knowledge of ELV systems such as BMS, access control, CCTV, fire alarms, and telecom.
• Capability in voltage-drop and short-circuit analysis, plus writing specifications and BOQs.
• Awareness of sustainability practices and energy-saving design approaches.
• ADDC and DEWA approval is preferred.
