Job overview
This position is for a Driver in the General Service Category, at GS-2 level, on a fixed-term appointment lasting 2 years with the possibility of renewal. The role is based in Accra, Greater Accra Region, Ghana, and reports to the Administrative Assistant.
Purpose of the role
The driver will operate official vehicles, support the movement of authorized people and materials, and help protect passengers, road users, and transported goods. The job also includes keeping assigned vehicles in proper working condition and maintaining security and cleanliness standards.
Main duties
- Operate office vehicles to transport authorized staff, and to pick up and deliver mail, documents, and other items.
- Receive officials at the airport and help with immigration and customs procedures.
- Carry out routine upkeep of the assigned vehicle, including checking oil, water, battery, brakes, and tires; report defects quickly; make minor repairs when possible; arrange further repairs when needed; and keep the vehicle clean and secure, including the tools and equipment stored in it.
- Take on any other related tasks as assigned.
Education and experience
Applicants should hold a high school diploma, a professional driver’s license, and sound knowledge of road rules and regulations. Auto mechanics knowledge is considered an advantage. Candidates must have at least five years of continuous safe driving experience as a professional driver.
Language and competencies
English fluency is required, and knowledge of another UN language is an added advantage. Familiarity with the local language is also beneficial. The role calls for strong commitment, integrity, and respect for diversity and inclusion, along with effective communication, teamwork, results orientation, analytical ability, the capacity to follow procedures, and good planning and organization skills.
