Key duties

As an Electronic Observer, you will report to the Electronic Mission Coordinator while airborne and work closely with a skilled team to deliver civil maritime surveillance operations. The work involves flying to unique locations across Australia and the Pacific, operating in airborne environments, and adapting to changing weather and deployment conditions.

Training and work conditions

• Full training to operate the surveillance and mission systems will be provided.
• Training starts from the beginning date and runs for 16 weeks in Darwin or Broome.
• No extended leave outside normal arrangements is available during the training period.
• The role operates in predominantly airborne aviation settings and may involve flying or deployments across various locations in Australia and the Pacific.
• The position is covered by the Surveillance AU Pilot & Observer Enterprise Agreement 2024-2028.

Selection criteria

• A Senior First Aid Certificate or an equivalent qualification.
• Intermediate capability with computers and IT systems.
• The ability to commit to the full 16 weeks of training in Darwin or Broome.
• Health and fitness levels that meet pre-employment medical requirements and Civil Aviation Safety Authority medical standards.
• A strong commitment to safe work practices.
• The ability to work independently and in a team, build relationships, and maintain high standards of integrity and confidentiality.

Eligibility and checks

Applicants must be Australian citizens and be willing to obtain and maintain a baseline AGSVA security clearance, along with an Employment Suitability Screening check. Applicants may also need to satisfy International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) requirements, which can affect some dual nationals, permanent residents, and former nationals of certain countries.
