Role overview
An established pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Sligo is looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to take charge of a multidisciplinary engineering function supporting an Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) operation. The role reports into the Operations Engineering Manager and plays a central part in improving equipment performance, strengthening team capability, and advancing continuous improvement across a tightly controlled manufacturing setting.
Key responsibilities
- Guide, coach, and develop engineers, technicians, and apprentices within the team.
- Set team objectives, work plans, and priorities together with the Operations Engineering Manager.
- Contribute to the upkeep, enhancement, and performance optimisation of manufacturing assets and equipment.
- Make sure all engineering work aligns with legal, company, and regulatory obligations.
- Champion improvement initiatives that raise plant efficiency, lower downtime, and boost overall performance.
- Take ownership of, and assist with, internal, corporate, and external audit activities.
- Maintain strong standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance at all times.
- Oversee engineering projects and manage the involvement of external contractors.
- Collaborate with Production, Quality, Technical Operations, and other cross-functional partners to deliver business goals.
Candidate profile
The ideal applicant will bring a strong engineering background from the pharmaceutical sector, along with proven people leadership experience and confidence operating in a regulated API manufacturing environment.
Requirements
- A Level 7 qualification or above in Engineering, or in a scientific field relevant to the role.
- At least 6 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in an engineering leadership, management, or supervisory position.
- Direct experience in an Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) manufacturing environment.
- Good working knowledge of pharmaceutical process equipment such as glass-lined vessels, reactors, pumps, heat exchangers, ATEX specifications, and solvent handling systems.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills.
